Greater Wellington Regional Council is responsible for ensuring the delivery of a safe, fair, reliable and environmentally friendly transport system in the region at least cost to the regional ratepayer.

The role of GWRC is to:

• Plan and monitor the region's transport network
• Fund Metlink public transport services
• Provide Metlink information
• Build public transport infrastructure
• Promote carpooling, cycling and walking with the aim of reducing vehicle emissions.
