More Buses more often on Dominion Road

Metrolink is increasing the number of bus services it provides its customers on Dominion Road from 2 February.

The new timetable will see Metrolink provide an extra 62 trips a day from Monday to Friday on the busy Dominion Rd route, equating to 15,500 more trips every year.

Jon Calder, General Manager for Metrolink, says the move means that Dominion Road customers will enjoy high frequency travel on one of the most popular bus routes in Auckland.

“We listen to our customers, and they are telling us they want more buses more often, so we will be offering one of the highest frequency bus services in Auckland,” continues Mr. Calder. “A Metrolink bus will be running every five minutes from Monday to Friday along the Dominion Road route. There is no need for timetables anymore.”

“We are always looking for ways to improve our service and offer our customers the best travel experience possible,” says Mr. Calder. “Our services on Dominion Road are extensively used by the Auckland community - in 2009 we transported an average of 43,000 customers per week on this route alone.”

“We want to become the way our communities choose to travel,” Mr Calder concludes. “That means listening to our customers and offering a service that is both reliable and frequent, and also simple to use. We’re passionate about growing public transport and expect that this initiative will encourage more people out of cars and onto buses.”

The new timetable will see a bus run from Mt Albert Rd along Dominion Road to St James CBD (Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 3.00pm) and then back again every five minutes (Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 7.00pm).

Metrolink is further adding to these additional services by introducing another 10 new Scania Euro 4 Low Emission buses to travel the Dominion Rd route from April.
