Additional $16m Investment in New Fleet
November 15, 2011
NZ Bus announced a further $16 million investment in new fleet, adding to the $50 million investment (118 buses) announced in January 2011.
This additional investment in 40 new buses will bring the total of new Alexander Dennis Enviro200 buses, on road or on order, to 158. These buses are of the highest quality, reliable, safe and with a Euro 5+ emissions standard, are environmentally friendly. Delivery of these new buses will commence from April 2012.
The first 38 buses off the production line have made a stunning impact on the Auckland roads, running in the red, amber and green livery of the new central flagship Link services.
As a proudly New Zealand owned company, we will always endeavor to pursue the best solution for our customers and stakeholders' and to ensure that the economic benefits of this deal flowed through the New Zealand economy, Kiwi Bus Builders were awarded the contract to assemble the buses at their high tech facility in Tauranga.
The flow on effect is not only in the plant, premises and jobs required for the assembly, but also in the fact that 25-30% of all the bus components are locally sources with a projected four-year revenue opportunity for New Zealand suppliers of $38 million. 102 direct new jobs were also created at Kiwi Bus Builders to fulfill the NZ Bus order-this is in excess of a $4m new injection of wages into the Tauranga economy.
