Changes Made to Bus Proposal
NZ Bus recently announced that it had commenced a detailed review of its Runcimans business and would be making a number of changes in time for the start of the new school year in January 2013.
“Since acquiring Runcimans Bus Company in 1995, we have endeavored to maintain this service as a cost effective option for our customers and have done so for a number of years now. We are proud of the contribution our drivers make to the community. It had however reached a point where it was unsustainable to continue to operate in the manner we had been” said Mr. Zane Fulljames CEO NZ Bus.
Before implementing these changes, however we consulted key stakeholders including our drivers, schools, customers and councilors. “It is fair to say that there has been some fairly robust feedback which I am pleased to say we have listened carefully to and modified parts of our original proposal accordingly “Mr. Fulljames continued.
Implementation early next year will see no change to 31 routes operated by Runcimans which carry 54 % of total customers, modifying 9 routes which carry 19 % of customers, introducing 1 new route and discontinuing 25 routes with the small number of customers affected by the change able to utilize alternative dedicated school services or public transport options.
NZ Bus is also making good progress on discussions of service options moving forward for Rudolf Steiner and HIBS.
In addition we will be trialing a new fare option on the route 92 and 93 commuter services which could ensure we retain these services in the longer term.
“In order to retain the core of this great service provided to the area, continue to carry the large majority of our customers and keep the majority of our people employed, these changes are required.” concluded Mr. Fulljames.
